SERVICE: It's what we love to do!
Ohio Kiwanis Division 16 welcomed Ohio Kiwanis Governor, Jason Miller, at a dinner on February 20th. Over 90 Kiwanians from the division attended. The evening included dinner, a program, and a service project for Shelter Care Safe Landing for runaway youth and collecting warm clothing for Snow Angels. We honored our Key Club Members who helped Ohio Kiwanis Division 16 clubs pack 36 bags for Safe Landing. This project was aligned with Ohio Kiwanis Governor, Jason Miller’s focus on Service Learning Programs like Key Club and Service to the community. There were several surprises as three of our club members, Jerry Martin, Jerry Baley and Barb Baley, were presented with a Beacon of Hope Award which is given to members for exemplifying the ideals of the Kiwanis Family by showing great vision, a desire to make a lasting impact and paving a way for the future by letting their passion shine brightly for all others to see.
Many members of Bath- Richfield Kiwanis feel a connection to the University of Akron Field Station adjacent to Bath Nature Preserve. Homer and Rosalie Steiner were long-time members of Bath-Richfield Kiwanis. Their mission in life was to work to protect the natural environment. A demonstration of that is the donation of their 23 acre wooded homestead to the University of Akron (in collaboration with the Trust for Public Lands) to help preserve these beautiful habitats. The property is adjacent to the Bath Nature Preserve. We participate in the Fall and Spring into Nature Programs. Our mission to improve the world one child and one community at a time fits with our connection to the University of Akron’s Field Station and Dr. Lara Roketenetz’s educational outreach. This year we donated a specialized stroller to allow students with specific transport needs to be safely taken into the Nature Preserve with their visiting classmates.
The field station educational outreach program has provided experiences in classrooms and at the park for thousands of students in NE Ohio and beyond. If you want to join us in helping this program become a Friend of the Field Station at: http://www.uakron.edu/giving/uafs
Our Kiwanis club continues to provide snacks for Bath School students in need. This program has started monthly. It is especially exciting to be able to partner with Bath School in this way!!
As Kiwanis mission says……changing the world one child at a time!
